Dear patients, families, staff, and colleagues
Effective end of the year 2024, I will be retiring from Children’s Medical Center. 2024 marks my 40th year of pediatric practice – all at CMC. I promised myself and my family long ago that I would leave CMC still at the top of my game. That promise will be kept.
Whatever good that I have brought to the world of pediatrics is based on numerous factors. I could not have lasted this long without the unbridled support of my family: my wife, Martha, and my grown sons, Harris and Jack: their spouses , Anastasia and Missy, and the 3 amazing grandchildren Rowan, Archer, and Zoe. At the end of my career, it may seem unusual to speak of and cite mentors, but each day, each year of my career was fueled by those who taught me the art of pediatrics – I would be remiss to not mention them – Dr. Jules Amer, Dr. Mary Zavadil, Dr. Jim Todd, Dr. Taru Hayes, Dr. Jim Shira, Dr. Arnie Silverman, Dr. Georgeanna Klingensmith to name but a few. I must thank the incredible staff at CMC, who have been there for me every working day, answering those phones, and really being the face of CMC to help allay all of those pediatric fears carried by parents. I must thank my partners for always being there for me and sharing our mutual mission at CMC, that is, to provide the best quality of care to our diverse population of patients and their families at all times. With these wonderful doctors, CMC remains the best pediatric practice in Colorado – Dr. Spero Papadopoulos, Dr. Erin Ambardekar, Dr. Liz Sweeney, Dr. Deb Chen-Becker, Dr. Katie Ginder, Dr. Lauren Mickey, and Dr. Ali Gilliland.
What will always remain the most meaningful to me are the innumerable patients and families that I have been honored to know and care for over these 40 years. The lessons that I have learned from all of you far surpasses any knowledge that I may have passed on. Working with you has made me a better pediatrician. I truly feel that special relationship between a pediatrician and a family – a true and lasting bond. That is the part that I will miss the most – getting to know that child from birth until 22 years of age and his/her siblings, parents, grandparents. I will remember the joys, the humor, and sometimes the tears and rare tragedies. Repeat these scenarios a thousand fold with new patients and now 2nd generation patients – what a life blessing!! The impact that you have had on me is immeasurable!!
Please help me make this retirement year a celebration!! I would love to have all of my present families stay on at CMC after I retire. I love and respect all of my partners. My partners have the space, time and willingness to accommodate you. There will also be a new doctor joining CMC in the fairly near future as I wind down. I would love to hear from you. Any thoughts or notes that you could send would be greatly appreciated. Just send them to the office.
To all – you have my love, devotion, and respect. It has been a privilege and honor all of these years!!
Be well and stay well always!!
With love,
Dr. “Jay” Markson
