Influenza vaccinations for the 2014-2015 season are now available at Children’s Medical Center. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that a child receive the Flu vaccine as soon as the vaccine is available to them. Children < 9 years who are being vaccinated for the first time for influenza require a booster dose 1 month after the first (another good reason to start early in the season).
This year both the Flumist and injectable influenza vaccine are quadravalent – meaning they protect against two A strains and two B strains. Flumist can be given to children 2 years and older.
Contraindications for Flumist Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine (LAIV).
